Collection: Brick and Mortar Blood and Bone

‘Brick and Mortar, Blood and Bone’ is an ongoing series of illustrations exploring the variety of architecture present in each neighbourhood in the city of Hamilton, Ontario.
The long-term intention of this project is to find a connection to community and the history of this city through its architecture.
The line-work of each illustration is drawn by hand, scanned and rendered digitally. Each piece takes approximately 4 months to complete. Buildings are chosen based on  aesthetic, their contents and their influence within the city.
What value do these buildings hold within the city of Hamilton, and why? Where do communities congregate, and what can they find within those buildings? How does it influence the way we travel around the city?

What institutions/ businesses/ programs/ establishments are present within specific buildings, and why? How does that influence the way we view and interact with each other?
